Father's Day

Father's Day is a special occasion that allows us to honor the bond between fathers and their children. As I sit here today, reflecting on this journey of fatherhood, I am filled with immense gratitude and joy. My daughter, Vivian, recently crossed a symbolic bridge by graduating from preschool, and it has made me ponder the parallels between her journey and my own as a proud "girl dad."

Through the lens of a Black man and a Christian, I want to share the profound impact of fatherhood on me and how it intertwines with my role as a husband.

Watching Vivian transition from one chapter of her life to another fills me with mixed emotions. On the one hand, I'm excited to witness her growth and development, but on the other, a certain unease comes from not knowing what lies ahead. As a father, it's my responsibility to guide her, protect her, and instill in her the values that will shape her journey. Just as my parents poured their love into me, I find myself doing the same for Vivian, knowing that their absence doesn't diminish the power of their love in my life or hers.

Fatherhood has allowed me to reflect on the love I received from my parents and appreciate the sacrifices they made for me. It reminds me of the beautiful circle of life, as I now have the opportunity to pour that same love into my daughter. Vivian is a constant reminder of the legacy left by my parents, and she carries within her the strength, resilience, and love they instilled in me.

Being a father is not just about the connection I share with Vivian, but also about my deep bond with my wife. Together, we witness the miracles of our children's lives, and it's a gift beyond measure. I am aware of the challenges we face in society, but within the walls of our home, I strive to create an environment where love, acceptance, and faith thrive.

Through this lens of our Christian values, we navigate life's complexities, teach our children the importance of empathy and compassion, and celebrate the diverse tapestry of humanity.

Fatherhood makes you appreciate the simple joys and milestones that bring so much happiness. From Vivian's first steps to her graduation from preschool, each moment is etched in my heart forever. It's a reminder that life moves swiftly, and it's our duty to savor these fleeting moments. As a father, I am blessed to witness Vivian's journey, the growth and achievements of our son, and the beautiful moments we share as a family.

On this Father's Day, I am grateful for the gift of fatherhood. Watching my daughter, Vivian Lee, cross the bridge from preschool to the next chapter of her life, I remember our unpredictable journey as parents. As a Black man and a Christian, I am committed to nurturing and guiding my children, instilling within them the love, faith, and values that have been passed down to me.
