Hall of Fame
Reflecting on my induction into the Hall of Fame at Episcopal High School of Alexandria, VA, I am filled with a profound sense of gratitude and nostalgia. Traveling from Seattle, Washington to Alexandria, VA, with my family was a journey back to a place that holds so many cherished memories.
Vivian and Grayson were thrilled to visit the school where Lauren and I met and began our family, making the trip even more special.
As I prepared to join the ranks of 90 other Hall of Famers, I knew it would be an emotional experience. My time at Episcopal was deeply rooted in love, faith, and family. I felt the presence of my parents, Sheila and Stanly Lee, who were there in spirit, sharing this honor with me. Reflecting on the coaches and dedicated adults who supported me, I realized how their guidance allowed me to push my limits, learn from my failures, and grow stronger each time.
The walls of Episcopal are adorned with the legacies of those who have contributed to its rich history, whether through sports, teaching, or community building. Standing there, giving my speech, I was acutely aware of the fleeting nature of time and the importance of living and leaving a legacy as a husband, father, coach, mentor, and educator.
The weekend was filled with joyous moments, culminating in the 123rd Woodberry Forest vs. Episcopal High School Football Game, known simply as The Game.
Although Episcopal lost a hard-fought battle, 18-14, the true highlight was being recognized on the field at halftime.
A moment that was just as significant was reconnecting with fellow Black graduates from Woodberry Forest, with whom I shared not only high school memories but also journeyed to William and Mary together. Standing together in Hummel Bowl as husbands, fathers, and educated Black men, we embodied the true essence of living a legacy.
We also reminisced about our weekends in Washington, DC, and beyond, further strengthening our bond.
As I flew back home with my family, I felt reassured that I am on the right path, doing the best for Vivian and Grayson.
This experience has reinforced my commitment to making a positive impact and continuing to build a legacy of love, faith, and community.
